Trendstop: Key Denim Trends from Denim Première Vision AW 2016/17

Published
Jun 24, 2015

Fresh off the trade show floor, Trendstop brings you all of the latest denim trends from the latest edition of Denim Première Vision. From May 27-28 2015, Barcelona’s Fira Montjuïc showcased nearly 100 weavers, manufacturers, launderers and finishers, each presenting their new designs for the Fall/Winter 2016-17 season. A key industry event for everything denim, the show’s central seasonal theme was ‘Denim Constellation,’ inspiring visitors to explore new developments influenced by cosmic aesthetics, technical colours and creative uses of natural materials. As part of the out-of-this-world theme, the Trendstop team have analysed the wide range of collections showcased at Denim Première Vision to reveal Cosmic Landings, a directional F/W16 denim trend that demonstrates innovative ways to update surface, texture and print.

This fall, denim collections resemble the surface of a distant planet, as garments incorporate speckled surface finishes.  This treatment can be executed through the weave of the fabric itself, or alternatively with the application of flecked tonal prints. Both methods create tactile effects, which can then be used to revamp garments like blue wash jeans or darker utility pieces.

Fall/Winter denim looks as though it has been salvaged from deep underground, as seen in rugged styles with an earthy feel. A key trend for shirts and jeans alike, we see blue denims treated with brown-tinted washes and mattified finishes, while components like buttons take on an aged, worn-in look.
