Uniqlo releases Peanuts, Kaws collaboration

Published
Mar 22, 2017

Uniqlo is renewing its collaboration with Brooklyn-based artist Kaws, this time drawing from iconic characters from the Peanuts series for  inspiration.

Kaws announced the collaboration via Instagram Tuesday morning - Instagram: Kaws

The news broke Tuesday morning after Brian “Kaws” Donnelly posted a photo on his Instagram of Snoopy in a Kaws t-shirt alongside Uniqlo, Kaws, and Peanuts branding. The collection is set to launch in April. No further details of the collection have been released at this point.

Kaws’ last foray with the Uniqlo saw the creation of five limited-edition t-shirts, all featuring Kaws’ signature characters. Price points for the last collection sat at under $20.

Uniqlo has built strong ties to the art world through collaborative projects: in addition to Uniqlo’s apparel partnership with Kaws, the brand has launched collaborations with Yayoi Kusama, Keith Haring, and even MoMA.  In January, Uniqlo launched ‘Art for All’, a series of pop-up shops that seeks to democratize art by providing art at accessible price points. At the pop-up, various artists provided screen-printing demos on Uniqlo garments.

Kaws, an internationally-recognized graffiti artist, is no newbie to the fashion world. The multi-media artist has seen his signature graphics translated onto a line of handbags for Nancy Gonzalez, onto Jordan Brand apparel and sneakers, as well as onto the interior of Billionaire Boys Club’s latest brick-and-mortar location.
