Chanel opened an impressive new Canadian flagship boutique in Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood on November 17.

The two-storey boutique, at 98 Yorkville Avenue, spans 600 square metres, within an original façade dating from the 1930’s. Designed by architect Peter Marino, the French luxury brand’s iconic colours of black, white and gold are used throughout the boutique, alongside elements inspired by the Coromandel screens of Mademoiselle Chanel’s Parisian apartment.

The store also features specially commissioned artwork throughout, complemented by carefully selected furnishings, including a brass ‘Raindrops’ wall mirror by Curtis Jere, an engraved brass and bronze table by Michael Pohu, and French Montano ‘ribbon’ chairs in blackened bronze.

The boutique houses four rooms on the ground floor dedicated to accessories. To the right of the store upon entering, the first space is dedicated to costume jewellery, the second room is dedicated solely to shoes, while a third and fourth room are devoted to a selection of handbags and finally, to a range of eyewear, small leather goods and other accessories like scarves.

Meanwhile, the second floor of the boutique features two rooms dedicated to Ready-to-Wear collections created by Karl Lagerfeld. The two rooms are “designed to reflect the intimacy of a private home, by including delicate French artisanal objects,” Chanel said in a news statement.

Toronto is currently the only city in Canada to house a freestanding Chanel store. Chanel’s original Toronto flagship closed last December. Since then, Chanel has been operating a shop-in-shop within Canadian luxury retailer Holt Renfrew
