Capsule and Liberty announce new dates for SS17 shows

Published
Mar 15, 2016

Capsule Show and Liberty Fairs announced Monday that they will move their SS17 show dates to July 10-12, 2016 to run concurrently with New York Fashion Week: Men’s. NYFW: M will be held from July 11-14, 2016.

The trade fairs decided to shift their show dates to allow for more international retailers and press to attend market week as well as fashion week. The traditional men’s market week dates are in the 3rd week in July, but this season the dates have been moved to one week earlier.

“The influential retailers in our community have told us that they would like New York to have simultaneous market and fashion weeks, like Paris or Milan,” said Deirdre Maloney, Co-founder of Capsule. “By running concurrently with NYFW: M, Capsule can better support emerging fashion in New York and make the city more of a can’t-miss menswear destination.”

NYFW: M will see its third season this July, which will double as its one-year anniversary. The CFDA and Cadillac-sponsored fashion event separated itself from the women’s shows in September to better showcase the men’s brands that are based in the US, and to better fit the fashion calendar. The men’s shows in New York City would be held in September for several years, but this would put the shows one month after the close of men’s market in August. The introduction of NYFW: M better fits the fashion calendar and now mirrors the Milan and Paris market and fashion weeks.

"Aligning our market with the shows allows us to better serve our retailers by maximizing their time and helping them discover brands who might not be showing at Liberty or Capsule,” said Sam Ben Avraham, Founder, Liberty Fairs. “The date shift will also allow for wider media coverage of the trade shows by those who solely travel to New York for Fashion Week. Brands, retailers, press and trade shows all benefit from the alignment.”

Capsule and Liberty will hold it second side-by-side show in July 2016 at Pier 92 and Pier 94. The two fairs held their first side-by-side show in February 2016.
