Inditex has begun to charge for online returns for Zara products in Spain, joining other countries in which the Spanish group's flagship brand had already begun to apply this measure, which includes all European markets.

Zara informed customers through its website that they can exchange or return items free of charge in any of the shops in the country/region where they made their purchases.

However, the brand owned by the group founded by Amancio Ortega has announced that online exchanges and returns will cost 1.95 euros starting this Wednesday.

"Returns for orders placed after February 1, 2023 will be charged 1.95 euros, which will be deducted from the amount refunded," the company explained.

Zara also noted that orders can also be returned free of charge to a delivery point located within the same country or region where the purchase was made.

Sources from the company told Europa Press that online returns for the rest of the group's brands such as Pull&Bear and Stradivarius will continue to be free of charge, although they did point out that other countries have already started charging for returns.

Regarding the implementation of this measure, Inditex has underlined on several occasions that it has been "extremely well accepted" in the countries in which it has been introduced and that it has had "no impact whatsoever" on sales.

In fact, according to the company's CEO, Óscar García Maceiras, there have been "two positive outcomes": "an increase of in-store returns and a reduction in return rates."

"Even from a sustainability standpoint, consumers understand that this is a trend that will become industry-wide within the next few years," said the firm.
