Yohji Yamamoto presents his interpretation of Dr. Martens' classic boots

In spite of the ongoing health crisis, creativity is still the main focus of activity in the worlds of ready-to-wear and accessories. A case in point is Dr. Martens, which has not given up on celebrating the 60th anniversary of its iconic Original 1460 boots. The English label has just unveiled another newly customized version by a longstanding collaborator with the brand, Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto.

BAPE, Raf Simons, Babylon and Beams are just some of the labels that are participating in festivities for the anniversary of Dr. Martens' most iconic boots. It goes without saying that the brand has not skimped on creative resources for this celebration that will last for all of 2020, with models reinterpreted by no fewer than 12 labels, which, for the most part, are as anti-conformist as the Original 1460s themselves.

For this anniversary month -- the first 1460s were first launched in April 1960 -- Dr. Martens has called on a major longstanding partner of the brand, Yohji Yamamoto, who has already marked the history of the legendary boots. The Japanese designer was not only the first to produce customized versions of Dr. Martens, but he also counts among the designers who brought the label's boots to the runways in the early noughties.

Renowned for his unconventional and unfussy style, his timeless love for black and his ability to do away with boundaries between genres, Yohji Yamamoto has come up with an anniversary model that is more rebellious than ever. The "1460 YY Web," which is made from Smooth Splice leather, is decorated with a laser-engraved motif of a spider's web. The designer's signature is also inscribed on the tongue, which is black like the rest of the shoe, and in marked contrast to the brand's signature yellow stitching and gold eyelets. In a final detail, a silver-colored metal spider can be seen creeping over the laces.

From April 25, this anniversary model will be available from Drmartens.com as well as from some of the brand's exclusive retail partners.
