Westfield expects record number of visitors for Chinese New Year

Not long after the western New Years shopping rush, it's time for shops to prepare for the Chinese New Year, too. In London, the Westfield London and Westfield Stratford shopping centres are expecting a record number of visitors, from both China and the UK.

Together with Chinese Golden Week in October and the January sales period, Chinese New Year is one of the strongest months for Chinese spend at Westfield. Last year, Chinese spending at Westfield Stratford increased by 57% year-on-year in February, and Chinese shoppers accounted for 16% of non-EU spend. China was also the largest non-EU spending market at Westfield London (14% total) and spending in Westfield London's luxury quarter, The Village, grew by 22% in February 2015.

Myf Ryan, Marketing Director, UK & Europe, said: "China is the number one international market to visit Westfield London, particularly The Village. These visitors are driven by their favourite designer brands, Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Gucci. Each year during Chinese New Year local and international Chinese shoppers visit both centres to shop at our luxury brands and experience Westfield's unrivalled, personalised Chinese service."

The two Westfields will hold a number of Chinese events during the weekend. The shopping centres also have Mandarin-speaking staff, and accept China Union Pay cards.
