Wacoal, Luli Fama win MarediModa Creative Excellence Awards 2022

The MarediModa Creative Excellence Awards are given annually to recognise and celebrate the stature of brands with a long, prestigious record in the lingerie and beachwear sectors. For their 2022 edition, the awards will go to US label Luli Fama and Japanese label Wacoal.

Luli Fama

The awards will be presented to representatives of the two labels during the 20th edition of the MarediModa trade show, dedicated to fabrics and fashion accessories for beachwear, lingerie and athleisure, scheduled at the Palais Des Festivals in Cannes on November 8-10.

The MarediModa Creative Excellence Awards are attributed to international labels that, over the years, have been able to build and consolidate a reputation and a record for absolute excellence, as outstanding examples of design creativity, know-how and product ethics.

“This year we are celebrating another two successful brands,” said in a press release Claudio Taiana, president of MarediModa, “recognising two first-rate names that are regulars at the show. Wacoal and Luli Fama, with their brand character, best represent all-round excellence in quality craftsmanship. They are absolute benchmarks with a unique tradition,” he added.

Miami-based Luli Fama was founded in 2003, the fruit of the collaboration between Lourdes Hanimian and her brother-in-law Augusto Hanimian. Lourdes, nicknamed Luli, was born in Cuba but spent her childhood in Miami, and draws her inspiration from Caribbean music and the South Beach nightlife vibe.

Wacoal

Luli Fama's style is a vibrant blend of contemporary silhouettes, bright colours and exclusive prints developed in collaboration with various artists, featured on bikinis, monokinis and a line of beachwear consisting of caftans, dresses and sarongs.

Wacoal Holdings Corp. is a Japanese specialist in women’s underwear, beachwear and shapewear. The group was founded in Kyoto in 1949, and currently generates a global revenue of approximately €1.5 billion, commercialising the Wacoal, Freya, Fantasie, Elomi and Goddess brands. The Japanese domestic market is still its primary commercial outlet.

In Europe, France is Wacoal’s largest market, followed by the UK and Germany. The label has a close connection with art, an approach initiated by its now-deceased founder, Koichi Tsukamoto, who notably founded the Kyoto Costume Institute, Japan's first fashion museum.
