Vogue names Juan Costa Paz as global creative director

Published
Feb 24, 2021

Vogue has named Juan Costa Paz as the title’s new global creative director, effectively immediately.

Juan Costa Paz, Vogue's new global creative director - Conde Nast

As the global creative director of Vogue, he will oversee the creative direction for the brand in the U.S. and the U.K. and help guide Vogue’s approach to content in all formats through all of the company’s owned and operated editions worldwide, the Condé Nast-owned title said in a statement.

He will replace Raúl Martinez, the man renowned as Anna Wintour's right hand, who left Vogue in December to join Victoria's Secret as the lingerie brand attempts a brand transformation.

"[Costa Paz's] approach to storytelling across platforms, his optimism and humor and his strong belief in collaboration make him a natural fit for this role,” said Wintour.

“I look forward to seeing the strong impact Juan will have at Vogue and how we communicate with our audiences around the world.”

Added Edward Enninful, European editorial director of Vogue: “I’m thrilled to be working with [Costa Paz] at such an exciting moment in Vogue’s history. His unique creative vision and design innovation will undoubtedly maximize our unrivaled content, engage our growing audiences and excite our industry partners.”

Bringing a wide range of experience in filmmaking, streaming and digital content, Costa Paz comes to Vogue from the Convoy Agency, an award-winning interdisciplinary creative agency based in Paris and founded by Costa Paz and Nordine Benotmane in 2013. During his time with the agency, he created content for clients including Nike, Miu Miu, Gucci, Off-White, Balmain, Louis Vuitton, Farfetch and Google.

Prior to Convoy, Costa Paz served as the digital director for Kenzo, where he oversaw digital communications for the brand. He began his career as a creative executive at Costa Films, where he developed and acquired film projects for distribution and aided in the development of the company’s global streaming platform, Mubi.

“It is such an honor to be joining the team at Vogue, and to work with this iconic title,” Costa Paz said. “Never before have we been so connected to our colleagues around the world while also being so isolated from one another. I hope to leverage my background in storytelling to underscore Vogue’s values — inclusivity, creativity, independence — across markets, and to bring audiences closer together.”

The appointment comes after Wintour added yet another title to her list of leadership roles at Condé Nast in December, being named chief content officer for the publishing company worldwide, in addition to serving as global editorial director of Vogue.
