Vogue.com's Chioma Nnadi is new head of British Vogue

Published
Sep 18, 2023

British Vogue has found a replacement for outgoing Editor-In-Chief Edward Enninful from within the wider Vogue family with Chioma Nnadi set to take the helm on 9 October.

Chioma Nnadi

London-born but based in the US for the past 13 years, she currently edits the web edition of US Vogue. She started at the magazine as a writer and rose to the post of Fashion News Director, before taking over as Editor of Vogue.com.

She’ll be Head of Editorial Content at the British magazine/website, continuing a process in which the once-all-powerful editors-in-chief of the European editions have been replaced by ‘heads of’.

With her having worked on the US title’s digital arm, it’s clear just how much digital is a key focus for the British unit these days. And it’s also clear that she has a good working relationship with Anna Wintour, who isn’t only Editor-In-Chief of the American edition but Global Chief Content Officer for its publisher Condé Nast and Global Editorial Director of Vogue, therefore the ultimate authority on all Vogue editions.

Wintour described her as “beloved among her colleagues at Vogue, and an editor and writer with an impeccable reputation — both here and in the fashion industry at large. I'm so grateful to Edward Enninful for everything he's accomplished at British Vogue, and we're all looking forward to a productive and creative relationship with him in his new role. I can't think of a more worthy person to follow in his footsteps than Chioma, who has proven herself adept at speaking to our digital audience and has found ways to extend Vogue’s reach, authority, and influence across all of our platforms. She is passionate about fashion, music and culture, and I couldn’t be happier that she will be leading our editorial and creative teams in London.”

Nnadi is of Swiss-German descent through her mother and Nigerian descent through her father and grew up in central London. She previously worked at independent magazines including Trace and Fader, as well as London newspaper the Evening Standard.

She moved to New York in 2010 to work at Vogue and as well as being active across its website and magazine, she’s co-host for its popular podcasts. It’s interesting that her background is largely as a writer, whereas her predecessor Enninful was first and foremost a stylist.

Nnadi said of her new role: “I’m beyond excited and honoured to have been appointed as British Vogue’s Head of Editorial Content. As someone who was born and raised in London, the energy of the city — its boundary-pushing style and creative scene — has shaped the way I look at the world. Now, more than ever, it feels like a moment to look beyond borders while also celebrating the broad scope of what it means to be British. I’m looking forward to engaging a loyal and inspired digital community that is energised by our access, point of view, and storytelling.”
