Valentino has reshuffled its management once again. The Italian luxury brand, which has been owned by the Qatari royal family’s investment firm Mayhoola since 2012, has put Laurent Bergamo in charge of its operations in the Americas. The executive was previously responsible for the Middle East market, where he has been replaced by Simone Bertolini.

Laurent Bergamo, who has been in office since September, will report to the brand’s chief commercial officer Marco Giacometti, who himself started working for Valentino at the beginning of the year to take on the new role.

French executive Bergamo is a graduate of the ISEG school of marketing and communications in Toulouse. Following a stint at Furla, Bergamo spent 14 years working for Tod’s. After working his way up the company, Bergamo joined Valentino in 2018.

In his new role, Bergamo, “will engage in the strategic direction of a new phase of development of Valentino’s retail, wholesale, and online distribution networks for the American, Canadian, and Mexican markets, all the while continuing to strengthen the brand’s presence in the region,” the label said in a statement.

Bergamo is taking charge of the Americas at a time when Valentino has accelerated its expansion into the continent. The brand has just opened its first store in Mexico, located in El Palacio de Hierro Perisur in Mexico City. Moreover, in June, the brand expanded its store in Dallas at Highland Park Village. The store was originally intended for its womenswear collections only when it opened in 2017, and has now expanded to house its full range of products for men including ready-to-wear, accessories, and perfume, said the brand.

At the beginning of 2019, Valentino announced the appointment of Gianfranco Ditadi, who had also worked at Tod’s, as CEO for North America.

Bergamo’s appointment comes at a time when Valentino, which is led by the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli, also created the post of chief brand officer for Alessio Vannetti (ex-Gucci) and appointed Jacopo Venturini as CEO in June, following the appointment of chief commercial officer Marco Giacometti.
