Tranoï Homme focusing on luxury streetwear

Published
Jan 21, 2015

The Tranoï trade fair, being held in Paris from 22 to 24 January, will host menswear designers and focus on luxury street style, with brands like ADYN, Filling Pieces and OOPS. FashionMag spoke with the fair's artistic director, Armand Hadida

Armand Hadida, Tranoï

Fashionmag: Men's luxury streetwear is on the programme for the next Tranoï Homme in Paris, why was this focus chosen?

Armand Hadida: The fashion market, the collections and the trends are evolving, luxury streetwear is finding its place alongside collections by designers. It is only right for Tranoï to offer a selection of young designers who correspond to this new chapter.

FM: Looking at the latest collections by Givenchy or other brands, is luxury streetwear increasingly selling more?

AH: Yes, obviously. The youth represent purchasing power and steady consumption of these types of products, which thus encourages designers to meet their expectations.

FM: What brands will the visitor be able to discover?

AH: Notably, there will be Filling Pieces, an Amsterdam-based sneakers brand, Adyn, based in England, leather bags and sneakers from Portugal's Hugo Costa, casual and chic style from German brand Milieu, the new Oops brand from Hong Kong, and the brand from Greek designer Angelos Frentzos (photo).

FM: Where do French designers stand on this luxury streetwear segment?

AH: We have a few French designers who are launching out into this segment. We would of course always like to have more and we invite designers to dare and take risks; but this goes for all segments and types of design. The key idea: being different and singularity.

FM: Does this choice herald future theme-based Tranoï trade fairs, and particularly in New-York (21-23 February)?

AH: New York being a first-time experience, we will be there with a mixed selection of our products to reassure and confirm the difference of our offer with what is on the market. Our little universe will be very easy to decipher and we hope that it will influence or encourage some of the players to present their work at a smaller scale trade fair.

FM: How many designers and which countries will be the best represented in New-York?

AH: There will be 75 designers at the trade fair and an offer based on products and accessories. We advise our exhibitors to stay away from collections and the multiplication of models and instead aim for something more concrete. A sort of summary that is more captivating. It is important to emphasise that the Tranoï trade fair is just as international as its exhibitors.
