Alber Elbaz is returning to the limelight with Tod’s. The Moroccan-born designer was selected by Diego Della Valle, the head of the luxury Italian footwear label, to take part in the second edition of Tod’s Factory, the label said in a press release.

The project was launched last year as a creative laboratory in which various designers, artists and friends of the house, are invited to collaborate on capsule collections.

“These talents are given access to the iconographic heritage, Italian artisanal excellence and know-how of Tod’s, which they translate based on their point of view in total freedom,” Tod’s said.

Alessandro Dell’Acqua was the first designer to participate in the project last year, with a collection of some 20 pieces including clothing and footwear. It was a huge hit.

The label added: “[Elbaz is] one of the most visionary designers of our time, who interpreted the world of Tod's accessories with his unmistakable creative genius.” It did not give many further details.

The designer, known for his dynamic style, and who has previously served at Yves Saint Laurent and Guy Laroche, focused mainly on accessories for the project. The capsule collection will be unveiled when it goes on sale, most likely before the summer, accompanied by a top-secret special event.

It’s not the first time that a label has tapped Elbaz since his departure from Lanvin in October 2015. He recently created a bag collection for LeSportsac. In addition, he worked with Converse in Japan on the launch of Avant Converse, a new premium sneaker range; and played a role in the creation of the perfume line Superstitious by Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle.
