The CFDA releases preliminary NYFW schedule

Published
Jul 29, 2017

With September fast approaching, the CFDA released on Friday the preliminary New York Fashion Week schedule for the spring 2018 season.

Many things have changed for NYFW leading up to the September shows. For one, IMG and the CFDA shortened the week by one day, with Marc Jacobs closing the week on Wednesday, September 13 as opposed to his typical Thursday evening slot. The CFDA said that the shortened week is a result of conversations it had with the industry to improve the week.

September also marks the end of NYFW’s partnership with Skylight Clarkson Square. Fashion presentations and runway shows were held at the venue since 2015, and following September, “there will no longer be a home base and the shows will be ‘decentralized,’” according to CFDA CEO Steven Kolb.

Still, the show must go on in September, and it will be led by headliners Calvin Klein, led by Raf Simons, and Tom Ford, who confirmed in April that he will present during the week. Tom Ford is on the schedule for Wednesday, September 6 at 8pm and Calvin Klein is on the following day at 8pm.

Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham, Public School, and Opening Ceremony are among a number of designers and brands that will present at their usual time slots. The inclusion of Rochambeau on Sunday, September 10 hearkens to the New York City-based brand’s previous show time when it was part of the women’s schedule, before joining the men’s schedule exclusively.

Kith also joins the schedule, closing Thursday, September 7 at the new 9pm time slot. Jeremy Scott, Philipp Plein, Fenty Puma by Rihanna, and The Blonds also hold 9pm time slots on separate days, and brings the question if the later time slot is due to the shortened week. Helmut Lang also reserved a 9pm time slot for Monday, September 11 to show its first collection with Shayne Oliver.

Finally, plus size brand Torrid will present during the week for the first time, filling a gap left by Narciso Rodriguez this week after deciding to hold appointments during the week instead of a runway show.
