Ted Baker is adding ship-from-store option for local and global shops

Ted Baker is the latest UK fashion retailer to enhance its omnichannel order management operations with new technology as it looks to improve customer experience, cut down on the number of ‘out of stock’ messages that online shoppers receive, drive visitor traffic into it shops, and reduce the risk of unsold stock is sitting in its physical locations at the end of the season.

The company has signed a deal to unify inventory across its estate and deploy new ship-from-store and express click & collect initiatives.

Ship-from-store is becoming increasingly popular, with major names such as Jigsaw and Whistles also using the technology that allows all stock to be available to online customers, whether it’s held in a warehouse or is sitting on a store rail. The tech also helps to maximise staff efficiency at a time when fewer shoppers are going to physical stores.

Ted Baker is linking up with specialist OneStock to implement the technology. It means that when orders arrive, they can be claimed directly by qualifying shops, with items being packed by store staff and shipped to customers directly.

“The main drivers for the ship-from-store project are to enable greater product availability on Ted’s website while maintaining a better sell-through rate of full-priced items within the store,” said Clare Harrison-Empson, Head of Global Retail Operations at Ted Baker. “OneStock will aid us in offering a seamless experience and delivery process for customers, keeping pace with the ever upward-shifting expectations placed on their favourite brands.”

The technology will be rolled out first in the company's core UK market, but it will also later be deployed abroad with the US and the Middle East and Asia also benefiting. That should help Ted Baker fulfil e-commerce orders faster in those markets.
