Swarovski gets colorful with hues of new lab-grown diamonds

Crystal behemoth Swarovski has announced the launch of lab-grown diamonds in 16 new colors.

Swarovski

The Austrian jewelry company, which first launched lab-created diamonds in 2018, is unveiling the innovative Swarovski Created Diamonds during Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris this week.

"Swarovski is probably most known for our precision-cut crystals, but as a company we are increasingly focused on exploring new materials and related technologies to offer our clients endless possibilities," said Markus Langes-Swarovski, Member of the Executive Board, in a statement.

The new colors have been grouped into four pillars, each referencing the worlds of fashion, art, music and architecture. Within each pillar are four cushion-cut, laboratory-created diamonds, three of which are 1.25 carats each, and one of which, the "hero color," is 2.5 carats.

The four hero colors are named "Androgyny Flamingo" (fashion), "Cubist Sky" (art), "Heavy Metal Cherry" (music) and "Gothic Cognac" (architecture). Other colors, inspired by anything from a couture gown to a sculpture, bear the monikers "Punk Lipstick," "Surrealist Butter," "Draped Fire" and "Electro Arctic."

"I'd like to think that these stones have endless potential and are able to bring any idea to life," added Langes-Swarovski. "The colors, cuts and sizes are created to inspire jewelry that has never been made or even dreamed of. It's a toolbox of unlimited creativity."

Swarovski isn't the only big name tapping into the growing trend for man-made jewels -- the luxury miner De Beers Group also unveiled its debut laboratory-grown gemstone collection in 2018.
