Shanghai to host Intertextile and Chic at end of August

Published
Jul 29, 2021

Having seen a return to almost normal levels of activity in April, Shanghai's textile and apparel trade shows will hold their next editions from August 25 to 27. Earlier than usual, these dates have been selected due to the unavailability of the National Exhibition and Convention Center on the days the events habitually take place.

This time around, textile and thread show Intertextile is hoping to capitalize on the success it saw during its March edition, which attracted 80,553 buyers and 2,600 exhibitors from 17 countries. In response to the ongoing difficulties faced by international exhibitors and buyers due to travel restrictions, the event's organizers will be offering the Hybrid Exhibition Package, which provides physical booths kitted out with display stands and video equipment to exhibitors, whom visitors can contact through a QR code device that links up to a dedicated sourcing platform.

Fashion and apparel show Chic, which brought together 88,103 visitors in April, will be hosting some 675 exhibitors representing 718 brands in an event spread over 62,000 square meters. Aimed at Chinese brands seeking both local and international distributors, the trade fair is usually also an opportunity for foreign brands to boost their development in China and Asia. This international presence has, however, been somewhat diminished since the start of the Covid-19 crisis, due to the restrictions placed on travel between different countries.

The organizers will then turn their attention to Shenzen, where, once again, they will simultaneously host their respective trade fairs, from November 3 to 5. These dates represent a secondary event for Intertextile, Chic, PH Value and Yarn Expo, targeted specifically at companies and professionals based in China's southern provinces, which boast a particularly active textile industry. The project's debut event took place in July 2020, following the cancellation of the Shanghai session in March of the same year.

In the meantime, the August session will be taking place during a period when most large textile and apparel trade shows in the West are still in the midst of their recovery efforts. Following a slimmed-down session in late June, Première Vision Paris will, for the first time since February 2020, be returning to its classic model from September 21 to 23. In Italy, Florence-based shows Uomo, Filati and Bimbo opened their doors at the beginning of July, followed by Milano Unica on July 6 and 7. Texworld Evolution Paris, on the other hand, will make its come-back in early 2022.
