Plus-size fashion brand Torrid is the latest retailer to launch a resale program with online platform ThredUp.

Plus-size brand Torrid launches resale program with ThredUp. - Torrid

As part of the partnership, Torrid is utilizing ThredUp’s 'Clean Out' programme to implement resale and to ultimately offer a secondhand shopping experiences to its customers.

From December, Torrid customers in the U.S. can participate by generating a prepaid shipping label from torrid.thredup.com. Next, they can fill any shippable box with apparel, shoes, and accessories from any brand, and ship it to ThredUp for free.

For items sold, the program offers sellers Torrid shopping credit, which can be used to purchase any items in-store or online. For a limited time, Torrid is providing an additional bonus to encourage customers to participate.

“We’re pleased to offer our customers an exciting and convenient opportunity to earn value by extending the lifetime of their clothes,” said Lisa Harper, chief executive officer at Torrid. “Working with ThredUp is a natural step in our mission to become a more impactful brand, as we leverage its RaaS platform to contribute to a more sustainable future for fashion.”

The partnerships makes Torrid the first plus-size fashion brand to leverage ThredUp’s RaaS technology.

“As the first plus-sized brand to leverage our RaaS platform, Torrid is a leader in its industry and making secondhand available to even more customers,” said James Reinhart, CEO of ThredUp. “Torrid’s resale program offers a tailored and unique experience that provides consumers with a responsible way to give their preloved clothing a second or even third life.”

Torrid is one of many retailers who are diving into resale. Most recently, Hot Topic, the omni-channel merchandise destination for entertainment and music fans, launched resale. Likewise, Tommy Hilfiger also jumped into resale earlier this year, both via a partnership with ThredUp.
