Petit Bateau expands into cosmetics

Petit Bateau is expanding its product portfolio by preparing to launch a perfume and cosmetics line, a project now called PB Natural Care. The French fashion brand has enlisted the expertise of Boris Gratini, president of PB Natural Care, to create this new range of products.

Gratini, an expert in the cosmetics sector, co-founded the beauty brand Nailmatic in 2012, which initially became known for its nail polish dispensers before developing a whole world of fun and colorful products for children, including bath bombs, water-based nail polishes, and organic products.

Gratini's arrival at Petit Bateau comes as no coincidence. In fact, at the end of 2020 Nailmatic was acquired by Rocher Participations, the holding company of the Rocher group, owner of natural cosmetics specialist Yves Rocher and of Petit Bateau. The aim of the fusion between Rocher Participations and Nailmatic, which was previously owned by the Odyssée Venture fund, was to continue the development of Nailmatic as well as to launch new products for the Rocher group's brands.

Petit Bateau, a major player in the children's market, which is due to unveil its beauty line at the end of June, is not, however, making its first foray into cosmetics. In the early 2000s, the brand launched a perfume collection called Ça Me Parfume that offered fragrances such as Drôle de Biscuit and Mine de Crayon. These products are no longer available today.

Petit Bateau has approximately 290 stores worldwide and a large presence in supermarkets and hypermarkets, as well as about 50 partnership stores in China. Its turnover was about 300 million euros before the Covid-19 pandemic. As for the Rocher group, its turnover is close to three billion euros.
