Italian sportswear label Paul & Shark, produced and distributed by the Dama company, has officially launched a limited-edition upcycled line called Re-Sail. The line consists of a series of anoraks made from pieces of re-engineered discarded sails. The Varese-based label has launched Re-Sail at an event held in Milan during the menswear fashion week for Fall/Winter 2023-24.

The Re-Sail urban anoraks are characterised by large inner labels and feature numbers, logos and other sailing-inspired details. Each jacket is unique, since the availability of discarded sails is variable and limited.

The jackets are already available at select Paul & Shark monobrand stores, as part of the Spring/Summer 2023 collection.

Andrea Dini, CEO of Paul & Shark - DR

Paul & Shark is a certified plastic-free company, and is included in the list of 100 Italian green companies drawn up by Kon Group and Credit Suisse.

Andrea Dini, CEO of Paul & Shark, has highlighted a new fabric technology developed by the label's in-house R&D office, which created the first prototype of a cotton wool derived from the label’s production offcuts. “I’m convinced that, within a year, we will be ready to produce the first clothes using this cotton wool, not made of recycled polyester,” said Dini.

Paul & Shark has reported a sales growth of 18.5% in fiscal 2022, reaching €150 million, of which 10% were generated in Italy and 90% on other markets.

“As we await the definitive reopening of the Chinese market - one of our primary commercial regions - after repeated lockdowns, I’m looking forward to significant growth rates for us in sub-Saharan Africa in the near future,” said Dini. Paul & Shark has opened several monobrand stores in the region, in Lagos (Nigeria), Abidjan (Ivory Coast) and Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo), as well as a third store in South Africa, in Durban. The label currently operates 154 monobrand stores, in addition to being commercialised via over 1,000 multibrand retailers in 37 countries.

“The next directly operated Paul & Shark store will open in London in early September 2023, on Regent Street, while the next franchised store will open in Kuwait City on February 8,” concluded Dini.
