May 15, 2017
New Balance Japan is opening the the footwear label's first concept store, "New Balance Roppongi 19:06," on May 19 in Tokyo.
The store's name, ending in 19:06, refers to the year the brand was founded and its 111-year history and progression.
The store interior makes use of sharp concrete, constrasted with warm wood, to create a 'stadium' atmosphere evocative of sporting lifestyle, according to the brand. The store will offer state-of-the-art apparel and footwear, with a range of limited-edition and collaborative items.
In commemoration of the opening, the footwear brand will put on sale a model of 3D printed shoes dubbed "MS066" (priced at 38,000 yen, or 335 USD), following the release of the 44 limited edition pairs of the "Zante Generate" running shoes sold ahead of the Boston marathon last year. The running shoe upper will be made of a high-quality Japanese-manufactured knit, and a portion of the sole will be 3D-printed. The store will also offer a collection of apparel using the same knit, in addition to menswear and womenswear lines. The price will range from 14,000 yen to 20,000 yen (123 - 126 USD).
