ModaLisboa returns with hybrid format

ModaLisboa is a survivor of sorts, being one of the last fashion showcases to host a physical edition in March before the Covid-19 outbreak forced a shutdown of global travel and trade. Since then, several fashion weeks have been postponed, cancelled or gone entirely digital.  But the fashion event in the Portuguese capital continues to stand firm as it unveils plans for the next season.

ModaLisboa will take place on 7-11 October - Modalisboa

The next edition of ModaLisboa will be held on 7-11 October and will see the event return to Lisbon’s largest central park, Eduardo VII following a few seasons at Campo de Santa Clara. Only a limited number of industry insiders will be invited to the open air venue to attend the shows, organisers said.

Like other events in the fashion calendar, ModaLisboa is adjusting its format. “It is not a decision we have taken lightly,” organisers said, pointing out the challenges the coronavirus pandemic has imposed on the sector. A new mobile app has been developed for the upcoming edition, as well as a new website designed by innovation firm Altice.

“It’s absolutely essential to keep the cultural industry in motion,” event organisers said, although they are aware that rules regarding travelling and social distancing could change again before October. “We have to continue promoting the talent in our nation… And above all, we have to create an event that responds to the world we live in today. Older models can’t be recreated and the present needs new ideas,” the event said. The next ModaLisboa is not just a fashion week, it’s a conversation.
