Milano Unica show “forced” to shift to digital format next February

Milano Unica was the first major European trade show to be held physically after the end of the first lockdown in September, but it has now been forced to go digital for its February 2021 session. The organisers of Italy's benchmark textiles show have announced that the event’s 32nd edition, for the Spring/Summer 2022 collections, will be staged “in digital format only,” without specifying its dates nor adding further details.

“We are very sorry to lose this opportunity for meeting and sharing (...) However, we are left with no other option, and we have taken this decision fully aware of the present, continued international health emergency,” said the President of Milano Unica, Alessandro Barberis Canonica, in a press release.

In September, Milano Unica launched, in partnership with Pitti Immagine, the e-Milano Unica Connect website, a virtual version of the show. The organisers indicated that the site will be operational again in January, with the Spring/Summer 2022 collections.

Milano Unica also announced it has reached a decision on its next physical session, which is scheduled to coincide with the event’s 33rd edition, and will be staged in July 2021 at the Rho Fiera Milano exhibition centre, as usual.

It is worth reminding that Pitti Uomo, originally scheduled in early January, has been pushed back by a month. It will be held on February 21-23, just before the Milan Fashion Week, and will be staged jointly in Florence with its two companion events, Pitti Filati and Pitti Bimbo. Likewise, the Milanese shows Micam, Mipel, Homi, Lineapelle and TheOneMilano have postponed their February dates to March 20-24.
