Michael Kors taps Yang Mi for latest campaign

The Chinese actress will appear in the brand’s new campaign alongside Selah Marley and Ella Richards. Yang is also the face of Kors’ recent capsule collection for DFS.

 
Yang Mi is one of China’s biggest stars, both on film and on social media, with 70 million followers on local app Weibo. She first met Michael Kors in Beijing in 2015, and the actress has since appeared at his runway shows, including his Spring 2018 show on Wednesday. Kors also designed Yang’s custom gown for the 2017 Met Gala honoring Rei Kawakubo.
 
The upcoming campaign is shot by Tommy Ton in London and also stars Lauryn Hill’s daughter Selah Marley and granddaughter of Keith Richards Ella Richards.

Earlier this month, Yang starred as the face of Kors’ exclusive capsule collection for Chinese duty-free chain DFS. The collection was Kors’ second collaboration with the luxury retailer, each inspired by the jet-set lifestyle.
 
Kors is not the only American designer to turn to China for new spokespeople. Tommy Hilfiger recently announced Hong Kong star Shawn Yue as the brand’s newest men’s ambassador, signaling its increasing investment in the Asian market. Like Yang, Yue has large followings on Weibo and Instagram and regularly endorses products in China.
