Spanish high-street brands Mango and Desigual will not take part in the next edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion Week, scheduled to run from February 1-5. The move was confirmed by the event’s director, Miquel Rodríquez, to Spanish news agency Efe on Tuesday.

According to industry sources, Mango’s decision to leave the fashion event follows a change in its marketing strategies. “Fortunately this event is established enough not to rely on individual labels, but of course they are always welcome to be present,” said Rodríquez.

Meanwhile, Desigual will continue to sponsor the Emerging Designer Award, and will lead a program to support the internationalization of young brands.

Without Mango and Desigual, 080 Barcelona Fashion will feature 31 brands and designers over a five-day period. Some of Spain’s most talented labels will present their AW16 collections to buyers and press at Casa Llonja de Mar.
