MM6 Maison Margiela launches first iteration of sneaker collab’ with Salomon

Published
Nov 10, 2022

Fashion’s cool conceptual marque MM6 Maison Margiela and active sport specialist Salomon are poised to star retailing the debut iteration of a joint sneaker collection, first seen in the label’s fall/winter 2022 fashion show.

MM6 Maison Margiela

The two sneakers are notably contrasting – from a striking curvy trapezoid-shaped sneaker or tough tech high-altitude hiking boots. The first called the MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross Low, the second the MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross High.

“The first chapter of a collaboration that speaks to the brands’ shared ethos of transitional design,” explained the Paris-based fashion house in a release.

Their goal: to fuse the fashion house’s “signature irreverence with the outdoor sports apparel label’s performance-oriented design approach.” The result: a blend of offbeat yet sturdy unconventionality with high-tech caliber zest; they seem destined to become collector’s items for footwear enthusiasts.

Founded in 1947 in the French alpine city of Annecy as a ski-edge maker, Salomon grew to be a leading global outdoor sports brand. The house of Margiela was founded by the Belgian designer of the same name in 1988, going on to become arguably the single most famous conceptual fashion brand of all. Following its acquisition by OTB, the key investment vehicle of Italian fashion billionaire Renzo Rosso, the house named John Galliano as its designer, later going on becoming global creative director.

“Our motivation was to create a shoe that could easily transition between cityscapes and the great outdoors — a single product that both maintained Salomon’s high-performance specifications and also resonated with MM6 Maison Margiela’s contemporary aesthetic,” added the Margiela release.

“The core idea, though, was the same as it always is for us. Our goal was to push Salomon’s performance-driven designs to such an extreme that they seamlessly integrated into the MM6 Maison Margiela wardrobe,” it continued.

The MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon capsule will be available  at MM6 boutiques, online on MaisonMargiela.com, as well as in selected multi-brand stores from Friday, November 11.
