Louis Vuitton exports its runways to Shanghai and Miami

Published
Nov 15, 2021

Louis Vuitton looks to have got a taste for nomadic runways. The flagship LVMH brand is taking its Parisian shows to opposite corners of the world, where it is offering them up in new versions, inspired by the original presentations. This week, the label lands in Shanghai, where it will show Nicolas Ghesquière's womenswear collection for Spring/Summer 2022, revised and updated with new looks, before flying on to Florida at the end of the month to present Virgil Abloh's latest menswear offering. Both shows will also be livestreamed on the internet.

Restricted to exclusively virtual versions of Paris Fashion Week during the pandemic, some luxury houses that had invested in physical shows, most of which ultimately had to be carried out behind closed doors, made the decision to reproduce these presentations in Asia, where the health crisis was being managed more successfully.

In light of the extremely positive impact that this move had on local sales, Louis Vuitton has returned to the concept, which the brand actually first experimented with in 2019, with its show in Seoul. This time round, however, the label is expanding the idea to another continent – America – as well as to a new format, with shows based on its Parisian runway presentations.

As confirmed to FashionNetwork.com by the brand, Louis Vuitton has scheduled a womenswear show in Shanghai for November 17, which will take place at the Shipyard Repair Docks, on the Huangpu River. In addition, the house will be hosting a menswear show in Miami on November 30, when it will take over a barge near the city's Marine Stadium.

This second show will also serve as the ideal promotion for Louis Vuitton's new menswear store in the Miami Design District. The location is only the second of the label's boutiques to be exclusively dedicated to men's fashion, following on from a first menswear store opened by the brand in Tokyo in 2020.
