London leather goods label DeMellier sets up shop at Le Bon Marché in Paris

Last September, London leather goods label DeMellier opened a showcase on the ground floor of Parisian department store Le Bon Marché, the label’s first physical retail presence. DeMellier rapidly became something of an international sensation last January, thanks to the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. On an outing in Cardiff, Markle was seen sporting a spruce green handbag by DeMellier.

“I created the label eight years ago, but things became really serious two years ago, and even more so in the last few months,” said Mireia Llusia-Lindh, founder of DeMellier. Llusia-Lindh is a Spanish mother of three, who worked in London at consultancy firm Bain & Co. for nearly 20 years, advising luxury industry clients like Burberry and Loewe, before launching her own label.
 
DeMellier’s high-end handbags are designed in London and produced in workshops in Spain. The models are at once highly graphical and timeless in shape and colours, like the semi-circular Oslo handbag (approximately €420).

DeMellier is currently available in over 30 countries via its e-store, and claims three-digit annual growth. It recently hired Adèle Durlicq as head of marketing. “In November, DeMellier will be available on the Nordstrom website in the UK and on Shopbop.com in the USA,” said Durlicq, who has worked for Jimmy Choo and watch-maker Vacheron Constantin.
 
DeMellier also has a community engagement dimension. For each handbag sold, the label donates a sum to fund vaccinations and life-saving treatment for children in need in countries like Somalia and Zambia, in collaboration with the SOS Children's Villages charity.

For the festive season, until December 27, DeMellier will operate a second concession at Le Bon Marché, where it will be possible to customise some of the label's items.
