Karl Lagerfeld celebrates 100 years of Disney
The Karl Lagerfeld brand is partnering up with Disney for a capsule collection to celebrate the entertainment powerhouse's 100-year anniversary.
Launching February 23 on Karl.com and at select retailers, the collection's pièce de résistance is none other than the now-iconic sketch Lagerfeld himself drew of Donald Duck for the latter's 70th birthday back in 2004. Along with the endearing wishes: "Dear Donald, 7 is a great number -- 10 times 7 is even better! Happy Birthday! Love, Karl" -- apropos of the late designer's lucky number. The infamous duck illustration takes on Lagerfeld's discernable style, dressed in a high-collared shirt, dark sunglasses and skinny jeans -- giving the bird's dapper uncle, Scrooge McDuck, a run for his money.
According to Pier Paolo Righi, Karl Lagerfeld's CEO, the drawing exemplifies the departed eponymous designer's "imagination and sharp humour," and affirms it is "a true collector's edition piece."
The capsule, which caters to both men and women, boasts various pieces such as t-shirts, skirts, bomber jackets, trench-coats and accessories: tote bags, phone cases, jewelry, shoes and scarves add up to a complete selection. Several of which are made out of sustainable materials, such as organic cotton and recycled polyester, as a part of the brand's KARL CARES eco-conscious program.
Prices range between 49 euros for an iPhone case and 379 euros for a bomber jacket.
Disney is no stranger to collaboration with high-end, luxury brands. In 2022 alone, the media conglomerate joined forces with Givenchy, Stella McCartney and Coach, respectively. Karl Lagerfeld also recently merged with British actress and model Cara Delevingne for its CARA LOVES KARL capsule collection.
