Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon steps down

Published
Nov 14, 2011

Jimmy Choo is closing an important chapter in its history. Its creative director Tamara Mellon, who co-founded the brand with fashion designer Jimmy Choo fifteen years ago, is now also leaving the company. Her departure will be followed by that of Joshua Schulmann, Jimmy Choo’s CEO since 2007, who will resign at the start of 2012. Two unexpected exits, given that the pair had been re-assigned to their functions in May after the luxury shoe brand was acquired by Austria-based group Labelux.

It is not yet known the reason behind Tamara Mellon’s sudden departure, who worked for the brand for fifteen years. According to Labelux (who also owns Bally, Belstaff and Derek Lam), she wishes to pursue new projects. The sale of her 17% share of the company for 85 million pounds should come in handy in her future plans.

She will apparently not be replaced by another chief creative officer, as creative directors Sandra Choi and Simon Holloway will carry on the design direction for the brand.

Joshua Schulman will also be leaving the company at the beginning of 2012, by when the company will have announced the name of the new CEO. Schulman, who led Jimmy Choo’s development since he assumed his role in 2007, declared his pride in having multiplied the company’s revenue by four in only five years. Jimmy Choo’s turnover is expected to hit around 250 million euros for fiscal year 2011.
