The new logistics centre will have occupy a space of 44,000 square metres in the Plataforma Central Iberum in Illescas, 35 km outside of Toledo, reported Spanish newspaper Expansion on Tuesday.

The logistics centre will be used for the distribution of online orders and generate 1,000 jobs. “We are working to improve the shopping experience of our consumers and to make the supply chain more flexible and efficient,” said sources close to the group about the new site, which is expected to be up and running by end of 2019 or beginning of 2020.

The Swedish group is investing 30 million euros to purchase the 65,000 square metres site and build the centre, said the newspaper.

The Toledo distribution centre will be the second of its kind for the brand in Spain, joining an existing 36,000 sq mt logistics centre in Torrejon de Ardoz, Madrid.

H&M has currently 173 stores in Spain and its online sales grow by 32% annually worldwide. In the nine months ended August, sales in Spain reached 630 million euros, up by 5% compared with the previous year, but the rise was attributed to currency effects. After months of ups and downs, the company ended the third quarter with optimism and a 3% increase in sales worldwide.
