German outdoor retailer Globetrotter has opened a second-hand resale space at its Frankfurt store with a selection of returned and pre-loved items from various brands.

Shoppers can now buy pre-loved outdoor clothing and outerwear as well as backpacks, bags and other products. All items have been checked by an in-house team to assess their authenticity and condition, and come with a 12-month warranty.

The department store, which has nine locations across Germany, said the initiative aims to promote a more sustainable use of existing resources, putting sustainability before profit. In addition to selling second-hand items, the space offers products which have been returned, Aiko Bode, chief sustainability officer at Globetrotter said.

All items come with tags providing details about the product’s origin, age and history of repairs.

“It’s not about offering a bargain. The resale and reuse of quality pre-loved items is an conscious expression of an environmentally-friendly way of life,” Aiko Bode said.

The initiative could be rolled out to other Globetrotter stores across Germany if the pilot proves to be successful in Frankfurt.

Established in 1979, Globetrotter opened its first store in Hamburg with a selection of products dedicated to outdoor activities. Since then, the company has grown into one of Europe’s largest outdoor retailers, stocking a vast range of outdoor equipment.
