Givenchy adapts its couture to ready-to-wear with Givenchy Atelier

Givenchy has launched a “prêt-à-couture” collection. The project, named Givenchy Atelier, launched on October 8 in the US and on October 15 in France.

Givenchy Atelier showcases the brand’s couture pedigree - Givenchy

The collection is designed as a capsule of timeless pieces which “transpose the techniques of Givenchy’s haute couture for an exclusive ready-to-wear collection designed especially for an international clientele,” the brand said in a statement.

The collection features 50 pieces for women and men including dresses, suits, trousers, jackets, t-shirts, sweaters, and trench coats as well as accessories, including bags. Backpacks featuring oversized bows seen at the brand’s spring/ summer 2019 haute couture runway show have been reimagined in textured nylon and reduced in size, while shoes and sneakers are also on offer.

The aim of the collection is to take the LVMH brand Givenchy’s haute couture signatures and recreate them through classic industrial ready-to-wear production. The collection, which was manufactured in European factories, highlights the sobriety and elegance that the brand’s founder Hubert de Givenchy instilled in his design house from its inception. The collection makes for a chic wardrobe in black and white made up of classic and contemporary silhouettes and embellished here and there with discreet yet precious details.

Givenchy’s artistic director Clare Waight Keller has precisely and delicately tailored garments for the collection using luxurious textiles. Notable pieces include a top fitted to a jacket with its shoulders covered by a cape, slim-fit trousers paired with double breasted jackets, and diaphanous lace blouses. Cocktail dresses come slightly flared and, for the evening, the designer offers an asymmetrical sheath dress in black velvet.

The collection is priced much lower than the brand’s haute couture and matches the pricing of its ready-to-wear line. Items range from €350 ($386) to €4,990.
