Fenwick webstore reopens with safety measures in place

As a number of major names reopen their webstores, Fenwick has joined them, offering an "edited" selection of products.

The company had originally closed its online operation, which has only been running since last year, as it was serviced from its shops that are now closed and it couldn't guarantee adequate social distancing.

The webstore opened again for business on Wednesday having been closed since March 25. The company will now begin to take new orders and will dispatch those orders it had received before the closure last month.

The move comes as it has made major changes to the way orders are selected and packed and it said it's now "strictly" sticking to government guidelines regarding social distancing.

It said that no staff have been forced to work on the web operations with all of those now working being volunteers. They've also been screened to ensure they're suitable – screening that includes checking they don't have any vulnerable dependents and that they can get to work without having to expose themselves to busy public transport.

Of course, that comes with a downside and it means that deliveries will take longer than usual with orders fulfilled and completed within five to 10 days.

A company spokeswoman said customers have been supportive since it closed its stores and that it’s “important that as a business we continue to operate where we can during these extraordinary times in order to help protect both the future of our stores and our workforce”.
