Estée Lauder announces leadership changes at Smashbox and GlamGlow

Published
Jul 3, 2019

American cosmetics group Estée Lauder announced on Tuesday that Sejal Shah Miller has joined the company as senior vice president and global general manager of its Smashbox brand, while Arnaud Goullin has been appointed to the same role at GlamGlow.

In her new role, Shah Miller will be tasked with driving Smashbox’s brand equity and global expansion, as well as discovering new growth opportunities and pushing product innovation. She will also lead the development of the brand’s digital and influencer marketing.

She will be based at Smashbox’s LA HQ and succeeds Beth DiNardo, who has decided to retire from her position as global brand president at Smashbox and GlamGlow.

The executive, who has a BA in Economics and Psychology from New York University and an MBA in Management and Marketing from Columbia Business School, joins Estée Lauder from Mattel, where she most recently served as SVP and global general manager. In this role she was responsible for the company’s girls and games portfolios, overseeing brands including Barbie, Polly Pocket, Uno and Scrabble.

During her time at Mattel, Shah Miller played a vital role in turning the Barbie brand around, driving sales growth and improved brand equity.

Prior to this, she spent close to a decade in L’Oréal’s luxury division, serving in a range of senior marketing roles of increasing responsibility at brands including Viktor & Rolf, Lancôme, Biotherm, Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani.

Based in GlamGlow’s Hollywood headquarters, Gouillin will be responsible for developing and executing the brand’s strategy, driving its global expansion and boosting its international brand equity. He will work closely with Shannon Dellimore, GlamGlow’s co-founder and creative director.

He succeeds Paula Pontes, who has stepped down from her position as GlamGlow’s global general manager.

Having joined Estée Lauder in 2006, Gouillin most recently served as SVP general manager for Clinique and retail operations, a role in which he proved to be instrumental in developing the brand’s retail concepts, leading the digitalization of its education programs and devising retail process strategies.

Other highlights of his career at Estée Lauder include his time as VP and general manager for international APAC and Latin America at MAC Cosmetics. Prior to this, the graduate of France’s EDHEC Business School spent more than eight years in leadership positions at Shiseido-BPI.

Both Shah Miller and Gouillin will join Estée Lauder’s extended executive leadership team and report directly to Executive Group President John Demsey. Their appointments are effective immediately.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for Smashbox and GlamGlow as the brands continue to expand globally and transform along with today’s consumer,” commented Demsey in a release. “Sejal and Arnaud are both incredibly dynamic leaders with the global expertise, creativity and deep industry understanding needed to take these brands to the next level while not losing sight of what makes them unique. We are thrilled to have them on board.”

In May, Estée Lauder reported net sales of $3.74 billion for the third quarter ended March 31, 2019, up 11% from the prior-year period. The company’s quarterly net earnings also soared 49% to $555 million.
