E-commerce: sales expected to reach €2 trillion in 2019

Published
Sep 30, 2015

Online sales may well top the symbolic figure of €2 trillion ($2.3 trillion) by the year 2019, compared to €1.5 trillion ($1.7 trillion) expected for 2015.

The figures were revealed in a survey by Tracking Courier, which currently estimates the number of online shoppers at 3.1 billion web users. A number that is currently rising at a rate of 7.1%.

China recorded the biggest growth in sales, with a current increase of 60%. The world's most populous country is followed by India, up 30%, while Brazil, Russia, Canada and the US have also experienced rapid growth.

In the USA it's web giant Amazon that dominates the ranking of the top 6 online sales sites. The ranking has however already been monopolised by sites from fast-growing markets, such as Chinese Taobao, Tmall and Alibaba, and Indian sites Flipkart and Snapdeal.
