Dsquared2 enlists a battalion of boudoir warriors

Published
Jun 18, 2018

Dsquared2 hosted a punchy coed runway show on Sunday evening, sending out hyper sexy top gun-esque youths wearing khakis and camouflage topped with white fishnet vests. They were accompanied by sensual amazons sporting leather micro-shorts and hooded cropped sweaters, or draped in flowing parachute dresses that were ruffled here and there and worn with waistcoat-corsets which had been stripped down to the bare minimum.

"We imagined a kind of jungle into which we projected our models. The collection oscillates between a very military aesthetic and, in contrast, a more romantic touch linked to corsetry. The combat cargo pant has become Dsquared2's new denim", explained designers Dan and Dean Caten to FashionNetwork.com backstage, referencing the fact that their usually inevitable jeans had been completely banished from this collection for spring-summer 2019.

The cargo pant was therefore interpreted in both khaki and a sand colour, and in a variety of different fabrics and styles, from the classic trouser to puffed shorts, featuring all kinds of details from horizontal zips to the multiple maxi-pockets which popped up everywhere, as well as the internal stitching, hidden from view inside the clothes.

Zips created interesting volume on knitwear pieces, while parachute-like dresses in weightless silks and cottons were deconstructed and put back together with laces and cords which hung from models' bodies or wrapped around them like ivy. "All of the clothes have been very thoroughly thought through and worked on in their smallest details, like little sculptures", pointed out the two designers.

A run of sportier looks rounded off this warrior's wardrobe. Particularly worthy of note were a selection of tracksuits reinterpreted in opaque multicoloured leather and featuring phosphorescent stripes.

In terms of accessories, the mens' brightly coloured oversized sneakers really stood out, as did the women's aerodynamic sandal versions, featuring wedge heels that looked like they might propel their wearers into outer space.
