Dolce & Gabbana calls off January menswear physical show

Published

Change of plans at Dolce & Gabbana. The fashion duo has called off their next menswear physical runway show, planned for 3.30m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, during Milan Men's Fashion Week.

“Due to contingencies related to the Covid situation, the fundamental conditions to create our show were lacking. It was therefore decided to cancel our upcoming fashion show,” the Milan-based house explained in a release.

Though Dolce & Gabbana never list their shows on the official calendar of the Camera della Moda, which manages the catwalk seasons for men and women in Milan, their decision to cancel the show further reduces an already meagre season in the Italian fashion capital. The brand has also indicated that it does not plan to unveil any digital presentation of the new collection during the season, which features fall-winter 2021 clothes.

Following the cancellation by Dolce and Gabbana,  there now only remains three live shows: Etro, Fendi and K-way (and Etro’s will be staged without any audience) confirmed for the Milanese menswear season. Scheduled to take place between 15 to 19 January 2021 there are  currently 39 brands due to participate, though only these three will have runway shows. However, many houses are expected to present their collections in either video form; or with phygital presentations, with a few live models but no audience; or on an appointment basis in their showrooms.

The decision comes just two days after the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode confirmed that the Prefecture de la Police in Paris had ruled that there can be no catwalk shows with physical audiences in Paris this month at either the menswear or haute couture seasons. These are scheduled for January 19 to 24 and January 25 to 29 respectively.
