Christopher Kane takes top prize at Scottish Fashion Awards

Published
Oct 10, 2013

On Wednesday night, stars and big names in the fashion industry arrived at Dover House – the Scottish Office in London – to celebrate to 8th annual Scottish Fashion Awards.

Christopher Kane was named ‘Scottish Designer of the Year’ for the second consecutive year. It has been a big year for the Scot who – aside from being the toast of London Fashion Week - recently sold a majority stake in his eponymous label to luxury French conglomerate Kering, which counts Stella McCartney and Saint Laurent in its portfolio.

For its use of Scottish fabric in the Métiers d’Art Paris-Edinburgh collection, Chanel was awarded the title of ‘International Designer of the Year’. In November 2012, the luxury fashion house saved nearly 200 jobs in Scotland when it took control of cashmere business, Barrie Knitwear.

Known for her colourful aesthetic and her recent collaboration with Topshop, Louise Gray took home the prize for ‘Scottish Innovator of the Year’.

Footwear retailer Schuh was awarded the title ‘Scottish Retailer of the Year’ following record-breaking sales figures in 2012 and the opening of no less than 16 new stores over the course of the past year. The brand also recently launched a kid’s concept and a French version of its online store.
