Canada Goose opens eighth domestic manufacturing facility

Published

Buoyed by its recent strong financial results,Toronto-based outerwear brand Canada Goose opened its eighth Canadian manufacturing facility – its second in Quebec – in Montreal on Monday, April 29. Spread over 10,700 square metres, the production site will employ some 100 people at launch and should have 650 employees by the end of the year.

The new factory comes two years after Canada Goose opened its first manufacturing facility in Quebec, in the Montreal suburb of Boisbriand, which currently employs 500 people.

Having joined the company in 1997, Dani Reiss, grandson of brand founder Sam Tick, became CEO in 2001. Now aged 45, the executive has headed up Canada Goose's transformation into a leading international ready-to-wear brand, whose progress is driven by its premium down jackets.

In the third quarter of 2019, the label's sales totaled CA$399.3 million (US$300.6 million), up 50.2% from the prior-year period. In early April, the Canadian brand also announced the upcoming opening of six stores throughout fall and winter of this year, including one on Paris' Rue Saint-Honoré and three in Canada.

"We are not just opening offices or putting up a masthead – we are helping to rebuild the cut and sew industry here by creating meaningful new careers for hundreds of people. We are incredibly proud to be making this investment in the community and continuing to grow our in-house capacity," explained Reiss. Along with its two production sites in Quebec, Canada Goose also operates three factories in Winnipeg, Manitoba and three in the Toronto region. According to an official press release from the brand, its workforce currently accounts for 20% of those employed by the apparel manufacturing sector in Canada.
