Canada Goose expands U.S. retail footprint with four assorted retail spaces

Published
Nov 7, 2022

The goose is getting fat…on retail, that is. Canada Goose, the extreme weather outerwear brand founded in 1957, is opening four more retail locations across the United States—with an emphasis on the western region in Colorado, Nevada, and Michigan—beginning November 5, through the end of the year.

The Snow Room - Canada Goose

The first of the rollouts is a permanent space at The Shops at Wynn Las Vegas, one of the more upscale casinos along the famous strip, laden with themed casinos and other tourist attractions.

The Vegas shop will mimic last year's opening at South Coast Plaza, which features Canada Goose's latest version of its award-winning cold room, the Snow Room. The space allows shoppers to try on heavyweight jackets to test their warming abilities in cold temps as low as -10°F. The temperature recreates Churchill, Manitoba, the world's polar bear capital. While some might argue the air conditioning in the City of Sin is enough to warrant a puffer coat, the desert air also gets chilly on winter nights.

Following that, a permanent Denver location will open in December in the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, presumably a prime location given its mountainous climate.

Additional pop-up locations will be opened in Aspen on East Hyman and the Detroit metro area in Troy's Somerset mall before the ball drops in 2023.

Gayle Uyagaki Kabloona's work 'Uvagut' - Canada Goose

"This season's openings across the U.S. are an invitation to experience our beloved brand, powerful product, and exceptional experience first-hand. They offer an opportunity to own a piece of the luxury of Canada," said Carrie Baker, president of Canada Goose. "Each of these cities is iconic in their own right and are the perfect locations to help us reach new heights and audiences."

The locations add to the Canadian outerwear's six other locations—New York, Boston, Chicago, Short Hills, NJ, and the Costa Mesa store—that opened between 2016 and 2021.

According to a release, the stores will display art for a "museum-like feel" from the brand's private art collection, which expresses its commitment to the Canadian North. For example

Inuit artist Gayle Uyagaki Kabloona's work 'Uvagut' which means 'All of Us', features hands in a nod to Inuit craftsmanship. The Denver store will hang two pieces by Jordan Bennett depicting the changing seasons.

While so-Cal and Nevada may not seem like likely markets, the brand's offerings have expanded to lightweight down styles, perfect for the crisp air winters of the desert and west coast environments. Also, folks who live in these locales travel to places with less forgiving climates. The brand has seen a 46% growth in non-heavyweight down, making up 44% percent of total sales compared to the prior year.

Recently, the brand released second-quarter earnings results announcing total revenue increased by 19% to $277 million, due to continued strong performance in North America and wholesale.
