Britain’s Daniel Fletcher has been named Fiorucci’s menswear artistic director, a major move for the designer who only graduated from Central Saint Martins as recently as 2015.

He’s clearly going to hit the ground running as his first Fiorucci collection will be shown at the men’s London Fashion Week next month.

“We are delighted to welcome Daniel to Fiorucci. Our ability to attract an individual of Daniel’s calibre is a real testament to the strength of the brand and our ambitions for growth,” said Fiorucci CEO Simon Backhouse.

Fletcher, who has been seen as a future big name to watch, has been running his own Daniel W Fletcher label in recent years, as well as consulting for JW Anderson and Louis Vuitton. He had been nominated for the LVMH prize in 2017 and his brand has been sold in high-end department store Liberty’s menswear department.

Fletcher said he’s looking forward to “bringing back the components of culture and design that put the brand on the map in the sixties.”

It will be interesting to watch his development as Fiorucci fights its way back to prominence. A former major fashion influencer, the brand went into administration 30 years ago, but has seen a revival in recent years with Knickerbox founders Janie and Stephen Schaffer acquiring it in 2015. It opened a flagship store in London's Soho in 2017.
