Bottega Veneta to open six-floor megastore in Tokyo

Italian luxury leather goods label Bottega Veneta has announced that on December 8 it will open a six-floor, 800-square-metre megastore in Tokyo, at number 5-6-1 Ginza chuo-ku. The store is Bottega Veneta’s largest in Asia, and it is located in a futuristic building whose style is inspired by the Japanese capital’s modernist architecture.

“Our [Japanese] clientèle is important and extremely loyal. Japan is one of the world's leading markets for Bottega Veneta,” said the label's general manager, Claus-Dietrich Lahrs. "The new Ginza flagship, with its comprehensive product range within a unique environment with a sophisticated design, is an investment designed to boost the shopping experience of our Japanese and Asian customers, and make it unique,” he added.

The building’s façade replicates the label’s hallmark motif in a composition made of over 900 square panels in silvery metal with a “moon-like” glimmer. Inside the store, a conceptual use of lighting, inspired by the Light & Space art movement of the 1960s, combines with interiors enclosed by inclined panels coated in ‘Kyoto white’ and mineral plaster, blending the local and Italian mode of decoration.

The retail area is furnished in the minimalist style typical of the Bottega Veneta home line, integrated with Italian designer furniture such as Gio Ponti chairs and Sesann armchairs. The parquet floor in natural oak has linear ribbing similar to that of the local Tamo ash, while Japanese slate and Italian marble finishes add a sophisticated feel to the ambience.

On the product side, the store showcases the full extent of Bottega Veneta’s men's and women's collections. The basement is home to men’s leather goods and footwear, the ground floor to women’s leather goods and the eyewear collections, the first floor to women’s footwear and handbags made in precious leathers, while the second and third floors are respectively home to women’s ready-to-wear and shoes, and to menswear and the most exclusive items. The top floor is instead reserved for private appointments.

Bottega Veneta was founded in 1966 by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro in Vicenza, Italy. Since 2001, the label is owned by French luxury giant Kering, also the owner of Gucci, Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent.
