Boots to roll out perspex screens across 2,500 stores

Boots has introduced further measures to protect the health of pharmacists, staff and customers in store, including the distribution of 2,500 perspex screens and 20,000 protective visors.

The protective visors have been tested this week by staff at Boots in Victoria Centre, Nottingham, and will be available to others should they wish to use them.

The company is one of the first retailers to explore this piece of equipment, while perspex screens are being rolled out at various supermarket chains to help tackle the spread of Covid-19.

Boots said only one perspex screen will be made available per store for pharmacy counters, in addition to other social distancing strategies like floor stickers and encouraging card transactions.

Customers are also advised to bring their own pen to sign prescriptions and each store will be deep cleaned throughout the day.

Tracey Clements, chief operating officer of Boots UK and Ireland, said: “Our pharmacists and colleagues are frontline workers and it is our duty to protect their health as they work to support our customers, patients and the NHS. We are so proud of their dedication at this time.”

During the lockdown, beauty counters will remain closed and employees working for make-up and fragrance brands including No7, Liz Earle, Benefit, Fenty and fragrance counters will not be required to go to work.
