The first international concept store from Indian cult brand Bombay Electric has opened its doors at London's Selfridges.

The opening is in time for the Victoria & Albert Museum's exhibition The Fabric of India, which is part of the V&A India Festival. Bombay Electric has also designed five saris in collaboration with British designers Mary Katrantzou, Mawi, Nicholas Kirkwood, Peter Pilotto and Roksanda, which will be sold exclusively at Selfridges and the V&A. Profits go to Elephant Family,a UK-based foundation dedicated to protecting Asian elephants.

Bombay Electric was founded by London-born Priya Kishore and is known for discovering innovative and emerging Indian designers. The Selfridges store will feature pieces from Manish Arora, Little Shiplap, Monika, Morphed, Pero Anupamaa, Rashmi Varma, Rohit + Rahul, Gaurav Gupta, Namrata Joshipura, and Bombay Electric.

The Selfridges space was designed with British set designer Gary Card.

“Bombay Electric is a personal edit of the energy, colour and incredible design explosion of the new India. It is a dream to bring the underground aesthetic of Mumbai to my home city, London, thanks to Selfridges’ commitment to emerging global fashion.” says Priya Kishore.

“This cultural fashion exchange is the first of its kind at Selfridges. The V&A’s dynamic schedule of exhibitions is always close to the cultural zeitgeist, so we expect to see a discernible Indian influence on fashion in the UK and beyond. Bombay Electric will bring colour, energy and a new dialogue to London retail.” says Selfridges’ Buying Director, Sebastian Manes.
