Asics launches startup accelerator programme

Published

Japan’s Asics is looking for innovative retail startups to support through a new accelerator programme being launch this week.

The performance shoe brand is seeking ideas to tap into new opportunities and revamp its in-store experience, products and services, with the aim of implementing them in Japan by 2020.

Potential candidates can apply through a dedicated website until 5 April 2019, and the selection process will take place in several stages. After a first written application, startups will be screened through an interview with the Asics project team. An undefined number of startups will be then invited to make a Demo Day presentation in July, where Asics executives will evaluate the proposals before making a final decision.

Asics has already invested in three startups in Japan, and is currently supporting five up-and-coming sports and wellbeing businesses through a Barcelona-based European programme.

The company is embracing new technologies and ideas in its pursuit for innovation as part of its 2020 Growth Plan, which envisions a path towards creating revolutionary products, services and processes that can have a positive impact in customers’ lifestyles and experiences.
