Art Basel partners with Buenos Aires in new initiative

Argentinian capital Buenos Aires has been selected as the first destination of Art Basel’s new international initiative, Art Basel Cities. Together with the city of Buenos Aires, the international art fair will develop a vibrant programme of events carefully curated to celebrate the local art scene.

The partnership will help establish Buenos Aires as a leading art destination and create lasting relationships between the city and the international art world.

Buenos Aires is considered one of the best cities for culture and the arts of South America. Its avant-garde tradition, coupled with a rich literary and architectural heritage, create a vibrant art scene. The capital boasts of over 80 art galleries and an array of world-renowned art museums and public collections, as well as a new art and design district in La Boca and Barracas.

Art Basel’s programme will commence in late 2017. The initiative expands the organisation’s engagement in the art world and will also see Buenos Aires projects showcased at Art Basel events, providing artists and galleries an additional platform to engage with an international audience.
