Andrew Lane joins Hunkemöller as new design chief

Published
May 1, 2019

Fast-expanding Dutch lingerie giant Hunkemöller has named a new Global Design Director with Andrew Lane taking over the role from Zoe Price-Smith as of May 1.

Andrew Lane is Hunkemöller's new design director - Hunkemöller

Lane, whose previous roles were at Vera Wang, Donna Karan, Narciso Rodriguez and Tommy Hilfiger, has been tasked with taking “Hunkemöller to a higher and even more fashionable level.”

Company CEO Philip Mountford hailed his “positive energy, creativity and experience in the fashion industry,” which he said should “strengthen the brand, the collection and the overall focus of the company.”

And it’s clear that the company wants to be known as more than just an underwear specialist with Mountford adding that Lane’s “unique vision and fashion retail experience will take [the brand] from being known as a lingerie specialist to becoming a high street (fashion) brand, whilst maintaining our fashion driven strategy.”

Forty-one-year-old Lane has worked in the fashion sector for the past 16 years with time spent in New York and Tokyo, and has strong experience not just in lingerie but also in swimwear, nightwear and general fashion-focused womenswear.

The first collections under his direction will apperl for the winter 2019 season.

Venerable brand Hunkemöller (it’s over 140 years old) may have been around a long time but it still has plenty of growth potential. It’s currently Europe’s biggest and fastest-growing lingerie operation, with over 900 stores across 25 countries. It’s 85% owned by private equity firm Carlyle and has expanded into fitness product as well as making an impact with a growing webstore operation.
