A Bathing Ape is back on trend as it plans London store

A Bathing Ape, the Japanese streetwear brand that was a hot ticket during its golden era in the early 2000s, is planning to open a standalone store in London.

The Mayfair shop will be located on Conduit Street, serving as a new European flagship store for the brand, founded by Japanese designer Nigo.

A Bathing Ape, also known as BAPE, currently operates a permanent shop in Selfridges, while independent retailer END has customers in Newcastle and Glasgow well-catered for.

The London store could be the start of a wider European roll-out, with a BAPE spokesperson telling The Evening Standard: “We are intending to expand the brand further into other European regions.”

According to the newspaper, property agents Cushman & Wakefield and Shackleton brokered the deal for the 7,000 sq ft store.

A Bathing Ape, a mainstay of hip-hop fashion in the 2000s, has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent times thanks to the streetwear trend.

The brand is currently owned by Hong Kong-listed fashion company I.T.
