5.elements.berlin cancels its July edition

Published
Jun 6, 2011

5.elements.berlin’s July edition is no longer taking place. The lingerie and swimwear trade show announced on June 1st the cancellation of its next edition, meant to take place from the 3rd to 5th of July, just before the start of Bread&Butter on the 6th.

The cancellation of the trade show, created in the wake of Bread&Butter’s return to Berlin, shows that while the German capital maybe be strong in terms of denim and urban wear, it lacks in other sectors. While Moda City, another lingerie and swimwear trade show, is still looking forward to its launch in Paris in July, 5.elements.berlin was not so lucky. Event organiser Ocean Media explained that the cancellation was due to the refusal of industry leaders to participate, as well as an insufficient number of exhibitors, having had only 37 names confirmed by June 1st. Those would have been representing 65 brands in total, but the organisers considered that number to be too low for a trade show of national scope.

At first, the fair was supposed to be dedicated to potential exhibitors in the areas of accessories, cosmetics and wellness. However, after the termination of the Bodylook trade show in Düsseldorf, 5.elements.berlin decided to concentrate on bodywear. With this sudden change in concept, the trade show thus saw no other option but to close its doors and “to realise in January 2012 with the new fashion show concept a truly new and future-oriented show event”, explained event’s manager Andrew Lookman.
